SpamWatch - Outlook Addin 0.1 http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~zf/spamwatch/ SpamWatch Outlook Addin is a client to SpamWatch decentralized spam filtering service. It works with Outlook 2000 and Outlook XP. ~~ Usage ~~ o Basic usage After installation, SpamWatch Outlook Addin will protect you from spam by automatically filter your incoming emails and put possible junk emails into the `Junk' folder (See `limitations' below if it's not working for you). SpamWatch Outlook Addin will also show up as a custom toolbar in Outlook 2000/XP. There are three buttons, `Block' Press this button to mark the current selected email as spam. It will be moved to the `junk' folder and your marking operation will be send to the SpamWatch service to help others identify this email. `Unblock' Press this button if the email has been wrongly classified as spam. It will be moved back to your inbox. `Check' Check all selected against SpamWatch to see if any of them is spam. o Turning off SpamWatch Outlook Addin To turn it off temporarily, select Tools->Other->Advanced Options->Com Add-ins, then uncheck `SpamWatch Outlook Addin'. This is for Outlook XP. The menu names may be slightly different in Outlook 2000. Later you can re-enable it similarly. o Uninstallation Select Start->Programs->SpamWatch 0.1->Uninstall SpamWatch o Changing server address If you install your own SpamWatch server, you can point SpamWatch Outlook Addin to your server by editing the following registry keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\UC-Berkeley\SpamWatch\ServerAddress HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\UC-Berkeley\SpamWatch\ServerPort ~~ Limitations ~~ 1. The default server set at installation time is only for testing purpose. It is probably not available when you install the addin. Visit the website for possible updates about long-running services. 2. Automatic checking when new emails arrive only works for POP3 accounts, not IMAP accounts. 3. When wrongly classified emails are `Unblocked', they are all put into `Inbox', not their original folder. 4. There is currently no UI to change server address/port. You have to edit the registry. $Id: spamwatch-outlook-addin-0.1-readme.txt,v 1.1.1.1 2003/10/31 07:58:15 zf Exp $
